Della
Ewalt Enrichment Scholarship
Our friend, Della Ewalt, exemplified
what it means to be a friend, colleague, and leader. Della was
always the first to volunteer in so many ways. Through her years
with OALPRP she helped with training, by-laws, board development,
and was a diligent secretary for the organization. For her local
program, Della was tireless. Her program won numerous awards and
recognitions at the local, state, and national level. Personally,
Della loved the arts and traveling. She was always involved in
some local theatre production. Even her program education was
filled with puppets, skits, and songs. Della's travels were inspiring
to all. She traveled to many countries, learning about their cultures
while sharing our culture. Della Ewalt touched so many lives,
both at home and around the world.
It is with Della's love of learning
and life of adventure, that OALPRP has instituted the Della Ewalt
Enrichment Scholarship fund. To pay honor and tribute, a scholarship
may be awarded from the following categories: attend conferences,
pursue higher education, travel for exploration, local program
enhancement, or attend leadership training.

& Recycling Professionals (OALPRP) established an annual scholarship
for college students and college-bound high school seniors to
further their educational careers. The program began with two

the criteria stated in the application.
History
In 2002, this annual scholarship was renamed The C.R. "Dick"
Meyers Memorial Scholarship, in memory of Mr. Meyers, a former
Ashland County Commissioner and long-time supporter of OALPRP.
The scholarship was also changed from the award of two $500 scholarships,
to a single $1,000 scholarship award.
2005 Scholarship Winners
Miss Chelsea Korfel
- $1,000
Delaware County is home to Ms. Korfel,
who lives in Westerville, Ohio. As a student at the University
of Dayton, her major is Environmental Biology and Environmental
Geology. Chelsea’s career goals include earning a PhD in
Conservation Biology and to teach and do research at a university.
Her experience includes participating in a semester of an exchange
program to Chaminade University in Honolulu, Oahu, Hawaii, assisting
in wetland delineations, and being the editor of the “Perspectives
on Global and Environmental Issues/Values, Technology, and Society”
Newsletter at the University of Dayton. She also has volunteered
in helping the homeless in Portland, Oregon. It was there she
realized that “One man’s trash becomes their treasure.”
The enthusiasm of those homeless people who “dumpster dived”
for recyclable materials and exchanged them for cash sparked Chelsea
to fulfill her civic duty and recycle! Thus she initiated and
inspired fellow college students to organize a recycling summit
at the University of Dayton! Today, that first recycling demonstration
has progressed with funding and support from the administration.
